BassLab Terms of Service
Last Updated: 2026-10-02
Welcome to BassLab. These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legally binding contract between you and BassLab regarding your use of our mobile application and associated services (the "Service").
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING TERMS CAREFULLY. BY DOWNLOADING, INSTALLING, OR ACCESSING THE SERVICE, YOU AGREE THAT YOU HAVE READ, UNDERSTOOD, AND AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THESE TERMS. Arbitration Notice: You agree that disputes arising under these Terms will be resolved by binding, individual arbitration, and by accepting these terms, you and BassLab are each waiving the right to a trial by jury or to participate in a class action.
1. Eligibility and Account Security
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. By agreeing to these Terms, you represent and warrant that you meet this age requirement and that, if you are between 13 and 17 years of age, your parent or guardian has affirmatively consented to your use of the Service. You are solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account.
2. Description of the Service
BassLab provides a practice and educational platform that allows users to upload a song, utilize AI to separate the audio into isolated stems (guitar, bass, drums, and vocals), play back the stems at various volumes, and record their own bass performances along with the playback. The Service then generates a performance accuracy score relative to the isolated bass stem.
3. Artificial Intelligence Disclaimer
BassLab utilizes advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning models (such as Demucs) to provide audio source separation and pitch-tracking functionalities. You acknowledge and agree that this technology is experimental, rapidly evolving, and subject to unexpected outputs. The AI stem isolation may introduce audio artifacting or "smearing," and the scoring engine may occasionally miscalculate micro-timing or pitch accuracy. BassLab is not liable for any mistakes, inaccuracies, or omissions in the output generated by our tools, and you assume all risks associated with relying on the accuracy scores.
4. Intellectual Property, Copyright, and Your Content
In music copyright law, there is a strict division between the sound recording (the master audio track) and the musical composition (the underlying melody, lyrics, and structure). Separating a mixed sound recording into its component tracks constitutes creating a derivative work of both the master recording and the underlying composition.
- User Responsibility: BassLab acts solely as a tool provider. You must explicitly own the copyright or have legal permission from the respective record labels and publishers to upload and modify the audio files.
- No DRM Bypassing: You must bring your own legally acquired audio files. You may not use the Service to bypass Digital Rights Management (DRM) protections to extract audio from streaming platforms like Spotify or Apple Music.
- Private Study vs. Commercial Use: Your use of the stem extraction and scoring features is strictly limited to private, educational study and personal practice.
5. The Community Library
BassLab publishes a small, curated library of starter songs, produced by us or licensed directly from their authors, which appears in the app's Community tab. Every item in that library is placed there by BassLab.
- No User Publishing: The Service provides no means for you to publish, share, or otherwise make your audio files, separated stems, recorded performances, mixes, or scorecards available to any other user. Your content is private to your account, and the Service rejects any request to make a project public.
- Curated Content Remains Ours: The songs in the Community library remain the property of BassLab or their respective rights holders. They are made available for your personal practice inside the Service and may not be extracted, redistributed, or used outside it. We may add, change, or remove them at any time.
- Takedown: If you believe anything in the Community library infringes your rights, write to support@basslabapp.com and we will remove it while we investigate.
6. Data Usage, Metadata, and Privacy
When you upload audio files or record performances within BassLab, you retain ownership of your submitted content. However, by using the Service, you grant us the following rights:
- System Improvement: We reserve the right to use any audio files and associated metadata submitted to the App strictly to train, test, and improve our internal systems and application functionality. This includes using your data to refine our DSP algorithms, AI stem separation, onset detection, and pitch verification engines.
- No Third-Party Sharing: We respect the confidentiality of your practice sessions. We will not sell, rent, or share any of your submitted audio files, generated stems, or performance recordings with third parties.
7. Acceptable Use and Fair Usage Policy
To ensure the stability of the platform, BassLab enforces a Fair Usage Policy. Normal, reasonable personal use does not include bulk processing or commercial uses.
- Commercial Restrictions: You may not use the Service to create unauthorized derivative works for commercial distribution, such as isolating stems to sell as sample packs or uploading them to external platforms like YouTube.
- System Abuse: You may not use automated scripts to bulk-process an abnormally high number of media files through our stem separation engines.
8. Limitation of Liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, BASSLAB LLC SHALL NOT BE HELD LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. THIS INCLUDES ANY LEGAL CLAIMS BROUGHT AGAINST YOU BY COPYRIGHT HOLDERS FOR YOUR PERSONAL MISUSE OF COPYRIGHTED AUDIO FILES OR ANY DISPUTES OVER UNLICENSED DERIVATIVE WORKS. THE APP IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS.
9. Subscriptions and Payment
BassLab is free to use within the limits shown in the app. Premium and Professional are auto-renewable subscriptions, each offered in a monthly and an annual period, and are sold only through the Apple App Store, which is the sole payment processor the Service uses. Current prices are shown in the app before you subscribe.
Payment is charged to your Apple Account on confirmation of purchase. A subscription renews automatically for the same period at the then-current price unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the current period ends, and your Apple Account is charged for the renewal within the 24 hours before the period ends. Subscriptions are managed, and auto-renewal turned off, in your Apple Account settings; deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. The paid tiers raise usage limits only — every feature of the Service works on the free tier, and nothing is sold as a one-time purchase. Refunds are handled by Apple under the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, not by BassLab.
10. Apple App Store Terms
These Terms are between you and BassLab LLC only, and not with Apple Inc. ("Apple"). The following applies to your use of the BassLab app obtained from the Apple App Store, and you acknowledge that Apple has no responsibility for the app or its content.
- Scope of License: BassLab grants you a non-transferable license to use the app on any Apple-branded product that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
- Maintenance and Support: BassLab is solely responsible for providing maintenance and support for the app. Apple has no obligation to furnish any maintenance or support services.
- Warranty: BassLab is solely responsible for any product warranties, express or implied by law, to the extent not effectively disclaimed. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app to you; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the app.
- Product Claims: BassLab, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims relating to the app or your possession and use of it, including product liability claims, any claim that the app fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims arising under consumer protection or similar legislation.
- Intellectual Property: If a third party claims that the app or your possession and use of it infringes that party's intellectual property rights, BassLab, not Apple, is solely responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement, and discharge of that claim.
- Legal Compliance: You represent and warrant that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Third-Party Terms: You must comply with any applicable third-party terms of agreement when using the app.
- Third-Party Beneficiary: Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and, upon your acceptance, have the right (and are deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you.
- Contact: Questions, complaints, or claims regarding the app should be directed to BassLab LLC at support@basslabapp.com.
